From House to Home - New Home Essentials

From House to Home – New Home Essentials

Moving home is an exciting change. Every time. And every time it goes with a decent amount of stress. And hard work. I am speaking from my personal experience. Since I left my parents’ house 10 years ago, I have moved to different places more than half a dozen times. That includes new cities and a new country as well.

The last time was a few months ago and hell, I hope we stay here longer. Because if changing accommodations as a young girl at university is fun, moving house as a parent is not at all that carefree.

It’s not that bad though. I love the excitement of starting fresh.

A Day Out With London Duck Tours

A Day Out With London Duck Tours

London is beautiful, bustling with life, and full of charm. Central London is absolutely gorgeous and I fall in love every time I go there. There is so much to see but unfortunately, so little time if you are a tourist. One of the merits of being an expat is that you are a tourist in the city where you live and you can enjoy this all year round. Whatever the case, don’t worry. Even if you only have a couple of days to spend in London, you’ve got a number of sightseeing options to choose from. My favourite so far – London Duck Tours.

Mummy on a Saturday Morning

Mummy on a Saturday Morning

It is 7.30 am on a Saturday morning. She is still in her pyjamas, sipping hot coffee in silence, a cooking book on her lap, trying to persuade herself she feels cosy and relaxed. No rush today, no we-are-getting-late-for-school haste, nothing urgent on the list. It promises to be a calm, low-paced day full of smiles and happy family moments.

Then it comes up again… That suffocating sense of pressure, as if too heavy a burden has just landed on her shoulders. It overwhelms her and evokes an instant and severe headache (she wonders if a massive quantity of her brain cells is being irrevocably killed right now). And of course, it destroys completely the beauty of her morning coffee ritual.

The magic and beauty of postcards Paperless Post

The Magic and Beauty of Postcards

A woman’s world is full of beauty. We women are truly blessed because of our subtle sense of charm and magic. From a glamorous wedding dress to a cheap teacup you have just bought from a charity shop – everything could be beautiful and beauty is everywhere. Other examples? The list could be endless but what about postcards or special occasion invitations?

When I came to London, one of the things that amazed me (among many other things, of course) was the abundance of postcard shops and I don’t mean the souvenir shops for tourists. It was obvious that the British had preserved the good old tradition of sending and receiving postcards. To a great extent, this has been lost in my own country and replaced by text messages, social media posts, etc. Impersonal and not so touching, don’t you think? What has happened to the magic of a sealed envelope that is to be opened with excitement?

Guest Post – Best Italian Destinations To Visit This Summer

Summer is on its way and there are so many destinations that everyone should visit in their lifetime. With so many options it might be difficult to narrow the search for the best location down. However, Italy is bound to be a favourite amongst the general population. Everyone knows the Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum in Rome, but here are some little known Italian treasures.

Cefalù

Cefalù may not be the most well-known tourist destinations but this does not mean that it is not worthy of being seen as one of the best Italian escapes. Even though it is widely regarded on the smaller side of things, Cefalù has a lot of different landscapes to offer and there are a lot of things to see to satisfy every member of the family.

Hello Again from Simply Marina

Hello Again

Hello again, my dear readers!

This is not exactly a blog post – parenting, family, expat or whatsoever. Neither is it a recipe or book review. I just wanted to say ‘Hi again’ to all of you who happen to stop by and read my stuff. Thank you for that, I deeply appreciate it.

If you’ve been wondering where I have been for the last few weeks (and my tiny little ego hopes that some of you have been wondering lol), the answer is quite prosaic – I was at home, our new home. Yeap, we moved home last month. Huge heaps of belongings waiting for me to pack and unpack, organising things, etc., etc. You know how it is, pretty stressful. Even if your new home is not so far away from the previous one. At least, my boy didn’t have to change school. He loves being at that school with his friends, so we thought it would be better for him to keep going there for now.

Family, home, love

My Plan for 2017 is… No Plans

I can’t believe this is coming out of my mouth (in this case, my hand) but yes, 2017 will be the year of NO plans. I am a person who always makes plans, plans for pretty much everything – from the family’s dinners to moving house. Not this time, not this year. While many bloggers seem to be setting goals and writing them down on their blogs (I actually admire them), I am thinking of changing my own mindset.

My Plan for 2017 is No Plans_Simply Marina

Living in an everyday chaos and jumble has been a terrifying thing for me ever since I can remember. Not having a plan, not organising my time, not getting things done the way they should be – oh, how daunting it all sounds! But I think the insane pedant in me must be silenced. The pursuit of perfection must be ceased. Because perfection doesn’t exist. It’s time for a new approach.

Merry Christmas from Simply Marina

Merry Christmas from Simply Marina

It’s Christmastime already. I just wanted to wish you all a wonderful Christmas, cosy and joyful.

Our little family of three is celebrating on our own. This is one of the frustrations of being an expat – there are people you miss badly at Christmas, people who are still there, in the homeland, and you desperately want to give them a hug, to talk to them in the snugness of your own home, the home you have spent so many Christmases. Well, nostalgia will never cease.

But now it’s Christmas. And we are happy. Continue reading
